LayarHijau.com – The drama film Mumu, directed by Sha Mo and starring Lay Zhang Yixing, Li Luoan, and Zhang Ruonan, has been gaining significant attention from viewers.

The film has grossed over 106 million yuan (approximately 15 million USD) at the box office, with a score of 9.7 on Tao Piao Piao, 9.4 on Maoyan, and 7.0 on Douban. Amidst its success, Zhang Ruonan, who plays the role of a sign language interpreter, spoke about her deep experience in the film.

The story revolves around Mu Mu, a cheerful 7-year-old girl, growing up in a loving deaf community with her father, Xiao Ma. Their peaceful life is disrupted when Mu Mu’s estranged mother, Xiao Jing, returns, pushing Mu Mu to adapt to the hearing world. As Mu Mu struggles to connect, she realizes that love and communication go beyond words.

At a fan meeting held at Renmin University of China, Zhang Ruonan discussed her role as the adult Mu Mu. She shared how she was deeply moved by the emotional bond between the deaf character Xiao Ma (played by Zhang Yixing) and his daughter, Mu Mu (played by Li Luoan), which grows stronger through their challenges. One particularly touching moment for Zhang Ruonan was when Xiao Ma tried to take Mu Mu to the hospital but felt helpless due to his inability to communicate with the doctor.

According to Zhang Ruonan, her role as a sign language interpreter was crucial because this profession acts as a bridge between the deaf and hearing worlds. "This profession seems to be a connector that not only opens up communication pathways but also gives the deaf community a voice," she said, expressing her hopes, as reported by NetEase.

In the film, Mu Mu grows up to become a sign language interpreter, and her decision to speak on behalf of other deaf individuals deeply moved many viewers. Zhang Ruonan also discussed how meaningful the film was in providing a deeper understanding of the deaf community's life, while encouraging the audience to see the world from a different perspective.

At the event, Zhang Ruonan also spoke about her collaboration with Yuan Ying, a deaf actress in the film. "Yuan Ying's very contagious performance gave me the strength to dive deeper into the role of the sign language interpreter," she said. Many viewers were touched by their performances, which demonstrated the importance of understanding and helping others, especially in a world full of challenges.

Mumu delivers a heartfelt story about love, sacrifice, and communication without words. Zhang Ruonan hopes that the film can serve as a bridge to introduce the lives of people with hearing impairments to a wider audience.
